This is Rhodesend Pinebuck Ocarina, CGC, HIC, TDI "Rina".  Rina (Sel Ch Kismet's Heart Throb, ROM x Pinebuck's Katelyn Rose) was born on March 2, 2002.  She received her Herding Instinct Certificate at the German Shepherd Dog Club of America's National in 2002, when she was seven months old.  In April 2005, she passed her CGC and TDI certifications.

Rina is officially retired from the conformation ring and we are now setting our sights on obedience, rally and herding.  I think she'll be a very good performance dog.

May 27, 2007, Rina passed the GSDCA's Temperament Test by evaluator, Laura Gilbert, hosted by the German Shepherd Dog Club of Eastern Virginia.  Wink

A DOG FOR ALL REASONS

By Stephanie Bennet

I remember, quite a few years ago at one of our club meetings, we were thinking of a slogan to put onto a tee shirt. I came up with German Shepherd: A Dog For All Reasons.

So, this got me thinking why would somebody want a GSD. Well, for starters, they are easy to train. And they make wonderful companions too. If your dog isn’t suited for conformation competition, it can be shown in the performance events, which there are quite a few now. There is Obedience, Tracking, Herding, Agility and Rally. I’m not writing this article about any of the performance events, but rather about our dog, Rina. Rina, whose registered name is Rhodesend Pinebuck Ocarina, CGC, TDI, HIC, was traveling with her handler (Christi Halliday) back from the Saluki Nationals on June 11, 2005 (no, Rina wasn’t shown there, just along for the ride) in Lexington, Kentucky. Christi was out walking Rina (at her hotel), when this man came out of nowhere with a small dog who was off leash. Christi repeatedly asked the man to pick up his dog since Christi wasn’t sure how Rina would react to the small dog (anything small on four legs to Rina is a cat and is meant to be chased). The man then started approaching Christi and she warned him that since this dog (Rina) didn’t know him that he should be careful. Well, obviously the man again ignored her and continued to approach. Just then, Rina got between Christi and the man. Her hackles went up and she started growling and I guess at that point, the man knew that Rina meant business. Christi was so proud of her and WE ARE TOO!. One minute she was this dog who was very friendly (she loves everybody, EXCEPT CATS), and the next, she was protecting someone.

So, a German Shepherd Dog is A DOG FOR ALL REASONS. And our Rina proved that.
